From Tom Hiddleston’s highly-anticipated return as the god of mischief Loki in his eponymous Disney Plus TV series to the team-up of the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), there was plenty of new footage to unpack.
While you may have come away from the day reeling from everything Marvel has in store – despite going a year without any cinematic releases – there were several Easter eggs in the new trailers that added further excitement to the announcements… if that’s even possible.
From WandaVision to Ms Marvel, here are some Easter eggs that you may have missed:
The mysterious woman in the Loki trailer
At one point in the trailer for Loki, we see the back of what appears to be a woman sitting on a rocky surface.
At first glance, it looks like the woman could be Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, as she has a hairstyle similar to the ones she had in the first two Avengers films.
If this theory turns out to be true, then we must consider whether Natasha Romanoff has possibly been resurrected, having fallen to her death in Avengers: Endgame, or whether this Natasha is from an alternative timeline.
On the other hand, this woman could be someone entirely different.
There has been some speculation that we could see Lady Loki appear in the TV series, a female version of the character.
Some suspect Lady Loki may be played by actor Sophia Di Martino, who has been cast in the show in an undisclosed role. We’ll just have to wait and see!
Ms. Marvel’s Captain Marvel and Valkyrie T-shirt
A few days ago, we were finally presented with a first look at Ms. Marvel, a TV show about a young Pakistani-American girl who gains superpowers.
This marks the first professional role for actor Iman Vellani, who has already been confirmed as a member of the cast for Captain Marvel 2.
It appears her ties to Captain Marvel could be explored in her eponymous TV show, given her choice of attire.
If you look closely at this shot, you may be able to see that Kamala is wearing a T-shirt featuring Captain Marvel alongside fellow superhero Valkyrie.
Many Marvel fans ship Captain Marvel and Valkyrie as a potential couple, including actors Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson, who play the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Does Loki reveal himself as infamous plane hijacker D.B. Cooper?
In the Loki trailer, the trickster is taken to the headquarters of the TVA, otherwise known as the Time Variance Authority in the Marvel comics.
It’s safe to assume that the plot of his TV series will involve plenty of time-travelling antics… and we may have been given a clue regarding a historical event Loki was directly involved in.
In one scene, we see Loki – looking particularly suave with a pair of shades, a black suit and trimmed hair – sitting on a plane, a cheeky grin on his face.
His new look bears several similarities to sketches made of D.B. Cooper, an unidentified man who famously got away with hijacking a plane in 1971.
Could Loki be revealed – in Marvel canon, anyway – as the real D.B. Cooper?
A memorial to those who lost their lives in Sokovia
Having tried his best to tear the Avengers apart from within in Captain America: Civil War, the conniving Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) returns in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, spelling trouble for Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
One clip in the new trailer shows Helmut standing in front of a memorial to the fictional nation of Sokovia, which was destroyed in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
Several people, including his family, lost their lives in the devastation. So it is likely that Helmut will continue his fight for revenge in the upcoming show.
The appearance of villain Mephisto
The newly-released footage from Loki is filled with plenty of eye-catching scenes.
In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), who works for the TVA, is seen standing in front of what looks like a stained-glass window with two other individuals.
And on the glass window appears to be none other than demonic Marvel villain Mephisto.
It has been speculated that Mephisto could play a role in WandaVision, in addition to the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is due to be released in 2022.
With American Horror Story star Evan Peters cast in an undisclosed role in WandaVision, some believe he could be taking on the character.
Who is the beekeeper in WandaVision?
Speaking of Evan, could this be our first sighting of him in WandaVision?
There isn’t really much that can be said about this figure. All we know is that there is an unnamed individual who appears in the TV series dressed in what appears to be a beekeeper’s suit, or some form of PPE.
At the moment, there are many who strongly suspect this could be Mephisto, played by Evan.
If that is the case, then Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) could be facing an extremely dangerous foe.
Captain Marvel’s Monica Rambeau returns in WandaVision
While the character isn’t named in the new trailer, it has been confirmed that Teyonah Parris is starring in WandaVision as Monica Rambeau.
We have met Monica in the MCU before… although at the time, she was just a child.
Monica is the daughter of Air Force pilot Maria Rambeau, the best friend of Carol Danvers who went on to become Captain Marvel.
In the 2019 Captain Marvel film, Monica is depicted as a precocious young girl.
Years later, she is now all grown up, and seemingly unaware as to why she is in Wanda’s company, as the trailer shows.
Jane Foster’s assistant Darcy Lewis is back
Darcy Lewis is back, with Kat Dennings reprising the role in WandaVision.
Having made her first appearance in the 2011 Thor film as the assistant of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Kat was last seen in the MCU in the sequel, Thor: The Dark World, which was released in 2013.
Seven years later, it looks like Darcy is back exploring the extraordinary world of superheroes, this time in WandaVision.
How she will fit into the story, without Jane or scientist Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) alongside her, remains to be seen.
Is New York destroyed in an alternative timeline?
Loki’s story in his new TV series begins where we last saw him in Avengers: Endgame – grabbing the Tesseract and being transported to an unknown location.
As in the original Avengers film the story did not unfold that way, it could be that this version of Loki is now living in an alternative timeline.
This could mean that in his narrative, other events that happened in the MCU actually transpired differently.
For a few seconds in the Loki trailer, we see a view of New York that we do not recognise – the city absolutely pulverised to the ground.
How this happens – and if it does actually happen – we’ll just have to wait and find out.
Sam and Bucky arrive in Madripoor
In the trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam and Bucky are shown in various spots, including a city that many believe to be Madripoor.
Madripoor is a fictional island in the Marvel comics, which is located in Southeast Asia.
If Madripoor does appear in the show, it will join other fictional locations featured in the MCU, including Wakanda and Sokovia.
The Falcon following in Captain America’s footsteps
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, an elderly Steve Rogers hands over the mantle of Captain America to Sam, giving him his shield.
If the trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is anything to go by, Sam is very much following in Cap’s footsteps… literally.
In one scene, Sam is showing jumping out of a plane in a fashion extremely similar to Captain America at the beginning of the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when Steve leaps out of an aircraft without a parachute.
Of course, Falcon has his specially-designed wing pack at the ready.
WandaVision is due to premiere on Disney Plus on 15 January 2021.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is due to premiere on Disney Plus on 19 March 2021.
Loki is expected to be released on Disney Plus in May 2021.
Ms. Marvel is expected to be released on Disney Plus in 2021.
