First Dates star Shannen brought along her dead husband’s ashes when meeting her potential new beau Daniel.
The pair appeared to get on like a house on fire, seeing them in stitches while perusing the menu.
However, things took a solemn turn when Daniel asked about Shannen’s dating history.
‘I was married,’ she confessed before telling her tragic story.
‘I had a proper crush, he went to the school next to me and we used to catch the bus to school together,’ she explained.
‘I remember the first time we kissed. We were just lying on the bed and The Lion King was on and it’s like one of my favourite Disney films and we were so close to each other.
‘And you know when you really want someone to kiss you? And I was like, “He’s not going to do it because he’s too shy.”‘
Shannen thought she’d take it upon herself to lock lips with her late hubby, as she recalled how they were inseparable ever since.
The pair were together for over six years, however, they decided to get married when he was given to two weeks to live after being diagnosed with cancer.
‘We got married on the Sunday,’ she said. ‘He passed away 11 days later, it was really sad, someone like that doesn’t deserve to die.’
Her husband was just 23 years old.
Pointing to her ring, Shannen told Daniel: ‘This is his ashes and this is his birthstone.’
Away from the table, she told cameras: ‘He said the only thing he regrets is not having kids. Deep down I think, “am I ever going to meet someone like that again? But I know it will happen.’
Fans were quick to take to Twitter where they expressed how sad they were for the star.
‘Good grief, actually in tears at #FirstDates so sad for that poor young woman,’ one wrote while another added: ‘Poor Shannen gosh that’s so sad, dead from cancer at 23.’
Someone else said: ’23 so sad hope, she finds the happiness she deserves.’
And it seems others felt the same: ‘poor Shannon, windowed at 23. What a sad story.’
First Dates continues Wednesday at 9pm on Channel 4.
