James Corden has officially denied the rumours claiming he would be ‘replacing’ talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
The Late Late Show host, 42, insisted that there is ‘absolutely no truth’ to the claims, which began to surface after The Ellen Show was hit with allegations of being a ‘toxic’ workplace for staff.
James set the record straight in a game of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts with singer Alicia Keys, 39, on Wednesday’s episode of his show.
The My Boo singer asked: ‘There were articles over the summer that said you may be replacing Ellen was there any truth to it and would you ever consider it? Answer the question.’
James then replied: ‘That is a very…happily I will answer it because I don’t even know where, genuinely I don’t know where that even came from.
‘I think somebody started a rumor somewhere and someone jumped on the thing. There is absolutely no truth in that story at all. Zero.’
He continued: ‘As far as considering it, I think it would be a really crazy thing to take over from someone who I think has done the job so outrageously well for, like, 18 years. It’s not true.
‘And I think when the day comes to end this show, [it] will be the day to probably stop hosting a show every day. So, no I wouldn’t.’
Ellen made her return to the show this week and began season 18 with a monologue in which she promised to make changes on set and in her personal interactions.
